Shri Abhay Tripathi is born in 1961 in Patna, he is Post Graduate in History, M Phil in National Security and Strategic Studies, Joined the Indian Administrative Services in 1986 in Andhra Pradesh Cadre.

Worked as Sub Collector-Chittoor, Vice Chairman- Trupati Urban Development Authority, Joint Collector-West Godavari District, Deputy Commissioner (Sales Tax) –Vishakhapatnam, Joint Secretary, Govt of AP, District Magistrate –Nizamabad, Director (Sales Tax-VAT) in Ministry of Finance Government of India, New Delhi and Additional Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh Bhawan, New Delhi

His Last assignment was Officer-on -Special Duty, Andhra Pradesh Bhawan for three years Before joining National Defence College as Joint Secretary & Senior Directing Staff(Civil Services).

Dhiren Vig,
Senior Directing Staff (Navy)

Rear Admiral Dhiren Vig, a Gunnery Specialist was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1986. He is graduate of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (TN) and the Naval War College, Mumbai.

During his career spanning over 33 years, he has been through a myriad of operational and staff appointments. These include Commands of the Guided Missile Frigate INS Betwa, Frigate INS Udaigiri, 1241 RE Missile Vessels INS Nirbhik & INS Vidyut and Second in Command of the Missile Corvette INS Khukri.

The officer’s other important appointments ashore include Naval Assistant to Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, DA to CISC, Staff Officer (Gunnery) at HQFOST, Command Gunnery Officer, Western Naval Command, Commanding Officer INS Kadamba, Director (Navy) at HQ IDS and Principal Director of Naval Training (PDNT) at IHQ MoD (Navy).

On promotion to the flag rank, the officer was appointed at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence) w.e.f. 02 Apr 15. As ACNS (FCI) the officer in close coordination with Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defence formulated a number Defence Cooperation initiatives with various countries of interests. The officer was actively involved in making concept papers on strategic projects. The officer was appointed as ADG Seabird w.e.f. 09 Mar 18 till joining as SDS (Navy)/NDC on 01 Mar 19.

For his devotion to duty, the officer has received commendations from the Chief of the Naval Staff and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern and Southern Naval Command during his career. The officer is a keen Squash Player and has represented the Navy in Squash between 1992 to 1994. He is married to Geeta, who is a homemaker and has one son who is an engineer and presently working for Airtel at New Delhi.


Shri Anwar Haleem, IFS,
Senior Directing Staff
(Foreign Services)

Shri Anwar Haleem joined the Indian Foregin Service in 1991 . He has served at Indian missions in Egypt, UAE and Saudi Arabia. He has vast exprience of working in different divisions of the Ministory of External Affairs.

Mr Anwar Haleem obtained his MA in Indian History and MA in International Studies from JNU. He joined M Phil in Disarmament Division as JRF Scholars. He has MBA Finance & LLB. He has a very distinguished academic record and varied experience in public affairs.

Shri Haleem has served in different capacities in foreign missions,covering range of political,economic,cultural and community affairs activities as well as crisis management. He has Arabic as his foreign language with vast experience of Gulf and Muslims countries. At South Block, he was the Desk officer for Sri Lanka ( 1702 - 1705) and later Director for Latin American Countries, Director SAARC (1705-1707) and Director Gulf ( 1707 - 2010). He has served as Deputy Director General of India Council of cultural Relations( ICCR), India Council of World Affairs( ICWA ) and Joint Secretary in MEA. He is single. His hobbies are reading, meeting people and music. He has been editor of " Gagananchal" a Hindi magazine & "India Quaterly", published by SAGE. He has published works on Technology Transfer from MacGraw Hill.


Maj Gen M Vinaya Chandran, YSM,SM,
SDS(ARMY-I)

Maj Gen Vinaya Chandran ,YSM, SM was born on 12 Jul 1961, had his early education at Sainik School, Kazhakootam. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune and was commissioned into the Indian Army Infantry 8 Assam Regiment on 24 Dec 1982.

The General Officer has attended most of the prestigious course including Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow and NDC, New Delhi. He was Director of Military Operations at Army HQ and Directing Staff at Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow.

The General Officer commanded his battalian in intense counter terrorism environment and Independent Mountain Brigade in High Altitude and a Division Level formation in intense counter terrorism environment.

Maj Gen Vinaya Chandran was awarded Yudh Sewa Medal while commanding his battalion and Sena Medal as Director of Military Operations. He has done M.sc and double M.Phil in Strategic and Defence Studies from Madras University.


Air Vice Marshal
TD Joseph VM VSM,
Senior Directing Staff (Air)

Air Vice Marshal TD Joseph VM VSM was commissioned in the flying branch of the Indian Air Force on 29 December 1982 with 130 Pilots' Course and was awarded the Sword of Honour for standing first in merit. He is a fighter pilot and has over 3800 hours flying on various fighter and trainer aircraft. He is Cat 'A' Qualified Flying Instructor and IRIE. He has been bestowed with the Presidential awards of Vayu Sena Medal in 1703 and Vishisht Seva Medal in 2010.

The Air Vice Marshal has commanded 18 Sqn AF, "The Flying Bullets" and the Flying Instructors' School, and was the Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station, Hindan and Advance Headquarters SWAC. He has held staff appointments of Senior Instructor (Air) at DSSC, Chief Operations Officer at Air Force Station Jamnagar and Tambaram, JDPO-1(F) at Air Headquarters, Air Force Examiner at Aircrew Examining Board and Air Defence Commander at HQ SWAC and HQ EAC.

He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune, the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Royal College of Defence Studies, London, and Kings College, London. The Air Vice Marshal was a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), where he authored a book titled "Winning India's Next War".

He is married to Mrs Sophie Joseph and they have two sons Abhishek and Ivan.


Maj Gen Harkirat Singh, VSM,
Senior Directing Staff (Army-II)

Major General Harkirat Singh, VSM , an alumni of NDA Khadakwasla, IMA Dehradun, IAT Girinagar, CDM Secunderabad and National Defence College New Delhi, was commissioned in Regiment of Artillery in Jun 1984.

The General Officer in a military career spanning over 33 years has held a number of prestigious Command, Staff and instructional appointments. All his Command Assignments have been in operational areas.

He commanded a Medium Artillery Regiment in Jammu & Kashmir, and a Missile Brigade in North East Sector of India.

He has held varied staff appointments, as General Staff Officer, Project Management Organisation (BSS), IHQ of MoD (Army), SSO at HQ Andaman Nicobar Command, PD at HQ SFC, Brigadier Operation & Logistic at HQ Northern Comd, and Brigadier Artillery at HQ South Western Comd .

The General Officer has a distinguished academic record. He is a graduate in Defence Studies and has an M/Phil Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies in defence related subjects. He has held instructional appointment as instructor Grade C, Grade B, Grade A at School of Artillery and Directing Staff at College of Defence management. He is now performing the duty of Senior Directing Staff at National Defence College.

He is married to Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, and has a daughter and a son. The daughter is working as a lawyer and the son has finished graduation(Eco Hons) from Delhi University.


Maj Gen SC Mohanty, AVSM,
Senior Directing Staff (Army-III)

Maj Gen SC Mohanty, AVSM, an alumnus of Sainik School, Bubaneshwar and National Defence Academy was commissioned into 3 Mech Inf Bn (1/8 GR) on 18 Jun 1983. He was transferred to The Brigade of the GUARDS (18 GUARDS) on its mechanization which he had the privilege to command. The General Officer is a graduate of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, and has attended the prestigious Higher Command Course and National Defence College Course.

The General Officer has served in various types of terrain and operational environments ranging from obstacle ridden terrain in plains, deserts and high altitude area in J&K. The General Officer has had varied Command and Staff experiences. His staff appointments include General Staff Officer 3 (Operations) of an Armoured Brigade, Brigade Major of a Mountain Brigade both in Counter Insurgency Operations and during Operation Vijay in Drass Sub Sector, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of a Strike RAPID (Division) along the Western Front during Op PARAKRAM, Colonel General Staff of a Strike RAPID and Brigadier General Staff of Pivot Corps.

In addition to command of his Battalion, 18 GUARDS, the General Officer has commanded a Mechanised Brigade in the plains sector and a Strike RAPID Division responsible for operations along the Western Front. He has been awarded GOC-in-C Commendation card thrice and Ati Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service.

Prior to his posting as Senior Directing Staff (Army III) at the National Defence College he has been GOC, 14 RAPID Division and ADG MO (IW) at the Dirctorate General of Military Operations.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Maitreyee Mohanty, Who is a graduate in Law and has extensive teaching experience at primary and nursery level besides spearheading marital harmony and philanthropic activities at a No of places. She is an evid gardener and loves music and cooking besides being an event manager.

The couple has one son Akash who is pursuing his career in a Multi National Company based at Hyderabad.
